Are you ready to compete in the Mayor’s Cyber Cup Competition? The National Cybersecurity Center (NCC) is sponsoring a video contest that highlights cybersecurity safety and awareness. Entry to this contest is FREE for all high school students. Awards will be presented by the Mayor of Colorado Springs at our premier cyber event this fall.

MISSION:

Create a public service announcement (PSA) video about cyber safety. The target audience for the PSA will be K-12 students.

Choose one of the following three topics as a theme for the video:


Cyber Bullying

Online Safety (examples: Online Predators, Cyber Criminals, Protecting Personal Identifiable Information)

Social Media Safety (examples: Fake News, Digital Footprint & Reputation)


ELIGIBILITY:

The Mayor’s Cyber Cup PSA Video Competition is open to high school students who are at least thirteen (13) years of age and are students enrolled in 9th through 12th grade at a public, private, parochial, or home school located in El Paso County Colorado.


Eligible students, either working alone or on a team of up to three students (“Participant(s)”), have the opportunity to create an original video in accordance with the Mayor’s Cyber Cup Competition rules.


Video “cast members” may be students or adults that are not members of the team. Their participation will be limited to acting and will not participate in team awards.


Participants are required to work independently in the development of videos and without assistance from non-team members or adults.


Eligible students may only participate on one team.  Limit one (1) entry per Participant(s).


For Participant(s) to officially enter the Contest, the Participant(s) must be registered.


YOUR PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN MUST CONSENT TO YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST. PARTICIPATION AND COPYRIGHT RELASE DOCUMENT WILL BE EMAILED TO THE EMAIL PARTICIPANT PROVIDED FOR REGISTRATION AND MUST BE RETURNED NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2019.

CONTEST DESCRIPTION:

Videos must be a maximum of 30 seconds in length and address one of the three cyber themes of the contest. Videos will be uploaded to YouTube. Teams will provide a link to their video by emailing mayorscybercup@cyber-center.org


All eligible entries will be judged by an independent panel of judges and winners chosen based upon the following criteria:

                                     Creativity – 25%

                                     Content – 50%

                                     Presentation – 25%

 

AWARDS:

Awards will be given to each Participant for the following categories:

Best in Show video (overall winner)

Best in Cyber Bullying video

Best in Online Safety video

Best in Social Media Safety video


PRIZES DETAILS REQUIRED:

iPads or gaming consoles for each Participant in a winning team

Best in Show video (overall winner) will have their PSA video shown on the local TV and NCC’s website

 

CONTEST PERIOD

 

The window for video submission opens on May 17th, 2019.

Participant(s)’ video must be uploaded before 5:00 PM MT on September 6, 2019.

 

Winners will be notified by September 13th, 2019.

 

Award winners will be invited to a recognition luncheon during the annual NCC Symposium on September 20, 2019.


DISQUALIFICATION CRITERIA

 

Copyright, Trademark Infringement

Entries must include original material (including music, images, etc.).

No trademarked, copyrighted, or branded materials, logos, or products may be used without written permission from the owner, business, or organization.

This includes logos on t-shirts, branded products, etc.

If entries contain copyrighted, branded, and/or trademarked materials without permission, the entry will be disqualified.


Video Creation

Videos that do not meet the length or format requirements will be disqualified.

Contribution to the development of the video by those other than the participants


Video Submission

Videos submitted outside of the contest window will be disqualified.


Inappropriate Content

Profane or obscene material or language; or nudity, profanity, or gratuitous violence

Endorsement of illegal drug use, alcohol abuse, prescription drug abuse, or any other illegal activity

Derogatory characterization of any person or group

Any other content deemed inappropriate by competition sponsors or judges


Participants

Videos submitted by participants that have not met the eligibility requirements will be disqualified.

September 1st is the deadline to submit your PSA to win prizes at the luncheon taking place on September 20, 2019 at the Broadmoor Hotel.
